Although the southern California area had hosted various Folds of Honor events for many years prior, our Chapter officially formed in early 2015 after a career opportunity took me to Newport Beach in 2014. I had served as a board member of the Dallas Chapter of the Folds of Honor Foundation for several years and I was committed to staying involved with the organization from my new home. The timing was fortuitous as the Folds of Honor Foundation continued to invest in its national reach by expanding its regional chapter strategy. As such, it was a natural transition to form a new Folds of Honor Chapter in Southern California.
My biggest concern with forming a new Chapter was establishing a leadership group in a community that I frankly knew very little about. Much to my pleasant surprise, I quickly appreciated how passionate our southern California community is about helping our veterans. More specifically, I was fortunate to quickly find a handful of established community leaders that were intimately aware of the Folds of Honor Foundation’s mission and willing to volunteer the significant time necessary to establish our Chapter.
We introduced our Chapter in earnest in November 2015 with the Inaugural Patriot Pro-Am held at Monarch Beach Golf Links. Our Board’s hard work combined with overwhelming community support resulted in a completely sold out event. We followed up with another equally successful event at the Irvine Improv in April 2016. Additionally, we’ve been humbled to be chosen as the beneficiary by several local foundations, corporate golf outings, karma workouts and other constituents in the Southern California region.
I hope you will join us in supporting the Folds of Honor Foundation and show the veterans in our community that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
